Stockholm-based photographer Elis Hoffman (1979) pays tribute to the transience of life in this series of darkly coloured images. Travelling around the small rural towns of Sweden between 2010 and 2014, he photographed places he had never been before and people he had never met. Peggi Sue Amison writes in the accompanying essay: "At its base Fading explores these simple facts: Seasons change; leaves fall from the trees and die, winter moves in – everything is constantly fading." While interested in the cyclical, Fading focuses on the beauty of the autumnal. Small moments, quiet deaths, rust and mouldering. Elis's book is a gently romantic vision of life as it fades away.
